When you read a phrase like ‘Moscow modern art scene’ what does it tell you, what associations does it evoke? Not so many, I am afraid. And it is the same case as far as a Muscovite visiting Rome is concerned. All of us know such names of old Masters as Rafael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Lippi but we are blissfully unaware of those extremely talented modern artists to be found in small inconspicuous galleries scattered around side streets of our two cities. Why not bridge the gap then? For Art speaks not only global but universal language, symbolic language of beauty and perfection which serves the higher aim of excelling every one of us by unveiling correlation of inner and outer forms.
The works by Russian artist Ariy Radadgor definitely exhibit all these properties of the art of a universal scale. His paintings have an innate ability to purify and sharpen our perception and appeal straight to the heart of hearts. They go beyond logics and take us to those long forgotten areas of consciousness that Gustav Young called Collective Mind.
Radagor A. had been molding his concept for years experimenting with ancient psychotechnics until he finally discovered the unique method that he defined as ‘painting in the state of trance allowing to see real pictures of realities which are as real as ours.’ Later on critics and admirers coined the term ‘transrealism’ and thus Ariy Radagor can be considered the founder of a new style in Visual Arts and as such should be of a paramount interest for all those looking for virtual novelties in the realm of modern art.
In order to convey pictures he sees in trance Radagor A. has developed a totally unusual semiotic system and painting technique which alone can accentuate all shades and hues of his metaphysics or even mythology.
One indeed can speak of mythological roots of his art especially considering his biography. Since his youth he had been dreaming of becoming an artist but had no talent whatsoever. But once, crossing the Azov sea on a ship built according to his own scheme (he accomplished 22 crossings altogether), he was caught in a storm and being almost on the verge of dying he saw a vision. It was a beautiful woman, a goddess. She promised to endow him with a talent of an artist if he agreed to raise three children. And so he did. He brought up three gifted children, two sons aged 12 and 13 who have become quite distinguished saxophone players and a three-year old daughter, in a one-room apartment at the outskirts of Moscow. But whether this fact accounts for his talent or just his own amazing will and ability to work – he has created 6000 oil canvases and 3000 graphic works so far - is left to the discretion of readers and art aficionados. What really matters is the impact his art has on anyone whose sensitivity allows him to trace the presence of subtler and higher truths embodied in every painting.
At present Ariy Radagor has completed his series named ‘Keys to Dreams’ executed in oil in transrealism manner and started work on developing a new style in graphic arts called U-Way. The term and technique itself have Chinese origin and mean ‘flowing freely, done without effort, unintentionally’. Working in such manner requires ultimate mastery and precision for the work of art is done without a single draft with artist using quick strokes resembling those of a sword of a Kung-fu fighter.
Whichever style Radagor A. employs his works are always strikingly original and have all properties the works by a real genius must have. They display his perfect command of perspective, palette and composition as commented on them the board of Russian academicians when declaring him a member of Moscow Visual Arts Council.

Conte Mario Bracci
