![]() On the 22nd October 2008, Nicola Zichella, Editor of Foreign Affairs for Atlasorbis Magazine, interviewed Francesco Malapena. The question put forward by Nicola was 'how would you like to be called? 'Tenor of Naples?'
'Tenor of Naples!' No! it sounds wrong! As if i would say, Tenor of Milan or any other City. I prefer to be called 'Neapolitan Tenor'
Well whether we refer to him as 'Tenor of Naples' or 'Neapolitan Tenor' one thing is for certain, Francesco is a 'Tenor for the people!'
Being born into a family of actors, singers and musicians, its hardly surprising that Francesco's talent and passion for Opera, revealed itself very early in his life. At the tender age of 4, Francesco was playing drums. He began performing on stage at 5, working with many different companies. There was however, no end to this incredible young boys talent! He went on to learn the piano, and began to follow in his proud fathers foot steps, himself a Luthier of string instruments. At the age of 11, this young man was initiated into Violin and Mandolin at the Conservatoire 'San Pietro a Majella' in Naples. From those impressive and formative years, Francesco has grown from strength to strength. Performing at the Metropolitan Theatre New York, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, London, and several theatres on Broadway to mention but a few!
It gives me great pleasure to now tell you, that the man, my friend, the 'Tenor for the people' Francesco Malapena, will be back in London performing at the London Theatre Royal on the 31st May 2009!
True to form and a testament of this mans character, he will be singing for the 'Better World Concert' in aid of UNICEF UK. A charitable organisation, raising funds for the children and orphans of the earthquake in Italy, the children of the institute of music in Jerusalem, and the abandoned children of Bulgaria.
The organises of this charity concert are Dr Stefano Guido Cantaluppi and Dr Marzo of Latakia.
Among the special guests, myself being one (thank you Francesco) there will be:
- H.M King Simeon II of Bulgaria
- H.R.H Prince of Saudi Arabia
- Ambassador Republic of Guinea Bissau
- Government Italian Republic
Now my friends, those of you who like me, love Opera, please support the 'Better World Concert' and Francesco, by buying your tickets on line. Come and be a part of this spectacular event!
